Joan Simon and the Simon family are this year’s
Family Chairs. Joan, whose husband had dementia, agreed to be the family chair
if the family was included because "she didn't do it alone". The
Simon family has connected with ADAW in a number of ways throughout the years
through family education programs and support groups. They have participated in
the Alzheimer's Walk for several years, serve on the walk committee and have
been tireless fundraisers. Now walking in memory of Joan's husband Paul, the
Simon family would like to encourage people going through the journey to not do
it alone; to ask for help. Amanda Simon, Joan's granddaughter, is also the
forget-me-not painting artist for this year.
Paul Pitas, director of public relations and communications
for the Culver's franchise, is the Honorary Chair. Paul has been a member of
the ADAW board of directors and an advocate for staff and customers with
dementia throughout Culver's restaurants. He understands the value of creating
a supportive community.
Natalie Westegard, a social worker with Agrace, has provided
dementia care for over 25 years and will join us as the Medical Chair. Natalie has
been a member of the Dementia Care Network in Sauk County of many years and is
a great resource for caregivers encouraging them to seek help because, like
Joan said, you can't do it alone.
Step forward and give hope to individuals and families
touched by dementia by joining the Simon Family, Paul Pitas and Natalie
Westegard at the Sauk County Alzheimer's Walk on Saturday, September 17 at the
Mary Rountree Evans Park in Baraboo.
Have a third party event you would like to promote? Send us an email and we'll include the information here.
