Hundreds walked with us at Riverside Park in Portage to support individuals living with Alzheimer's or other dementia and their caregivers. Thanks to all the walkers for helping us raise awareness and for supporting programs and services provided by ADAW.

residents' Larry Day and his wife are this year's walk Family Chairs. They have been
caring full-time for Larry's mother for well over a year and connected with
ADAW early in their journey.
In an effort
to be as prepared as possible, they connected with Outreach Specialist Janet
Wiegel and scheduled a personal care consultation to learn about available
local resources and get answers to their many questions. They have attended
numerous caregiver education programs and participate in the monthly support
group. In addition, they keep mom connected by attending the monthly Portage
Larry would like to stress an important point, "When caring for a loved
one, be patient. You don't always have to be right, just be kind." He is
grateful for the chance to share his story in a public forum. If he can change
the life of just one person, he's made a difference. He wants people to know
the services he has received from ADAW have been critical. Without out them
they would never have been able to be caregivers for as long as they
They walk to increase awareness for the
disease and to encourage people to connect with ADAW.
Step forward and give hope to individuals and families touched by dementia by joining Larry and Glenda Day, Honorary Chair Bill Tierney, and Medical Chair Kay Rataczak on Sunday, September 11 at Riverside Park in Portage.
