Walk Highlight

Portage residents' Larry Day and his wife are this year's walk Family Chairs. They have been caring full-time for Larry's mother for well over a year and connected with ADAW early in their journey.

In an effort to be as prepared as possible, they connected with Outreach Specialist Janet Wiegel and scheduled a personal care consultation to learn about available local resources and get answers to their many questions. They have attended numerous caregiver education programs and participate in the monthly support group. In addition, they keep mom connected by attending the monthly Portage Memory Café.

Larry would like to stress an important point, "When caring for a loved one, be patient. You don't always have to be right, just be kind." He is grateful for the chance to share his story in a public forum. If he can change the life of just one person, he's made a difference. He wants people to know the services he has received from ADAW have been critical. Without out them they would never have been able to be caregivers for as long as they have.

They walk to increase awareness for the disease and to encourage people to connect with ADAW.

Step forward and give hope to individuals and families touched by dementia by joining Larry and Glenda Day, Honorary Chair Bill Tierney, and Medical Chair Kay Rataczak on Sunday, September 11 at Riverside Park in Portage.
